Frequently asked questions
How do I convert a screenshot to JPG?
Drop your screenshot into the box at the top of this page, choose files, or press Ctrl+V (⌘+V on Mac) to paste one straight from your clipboard. It converts automatically. Click Download to save the JPG, or Download all for a ZIP when you convert several.
Is Screenshot2JPG free?
Yes. There is no sign-up, no watermark, and no limit on the number of screenshots you can convert. Each file can be up to 25 MB.
Why are screenshots saved as PNG instead of JPG?
iPhone, most Android phones, macOS and Windows all save screenshots as PNG by default. PNG is lossless, so text stays perfectly sharp, but the files are large: a full-screen PNG is often 1–5 MB, while the same screenshot as a JPG is usually 70–90% smaller.
Can I make my iPhone save screenshots as JPG?
No. iOS has no setting for the screenshot format, and Settings → Camera → Formats only affects camera photos. Convert screenshots afterwards with this site or with a Shortcut.
How do I change the screenshot format on Android?
On Samsung, go to Settings → Advanced features → Screenshots and screen recordings → Screenshot format and choose JPG. Pixel and stock Android have no format option, so convert the PNG afterwards.
How do I save a screenshot as JPG on Windows?
Press Windows+Shift+S, capture the area, then paste it on this page with Ctrl+V and click Download. Or open the capture in Snipping Tool, press Ctrl+S and choose JPG under “Save as type”.
How do I make my Mac save screenshots as JPG?
Open Terminal and run: defaults write com.apple.screencapture type jpg, then run killall SystemUIServer. To switch back, run the same command with png instead of jpg.
Will converting to JPG make my screenshot blurry?
Not at the default quality of 92%. JPG can add faint artifacts around sharp text at low settings, so keep the slider at 85% or higher for screenshots with small text.
Can I set a maximum file size for the JPG?
Yes. Under “Max file size”, pick 100 KB, 200 KB, 500 KB, 1 MB or 2 MB, or choose Custom and type any size in KB. The quality is then set automatically to the highest level that fits (the quality slider is disabled), and the image is scaled down only if that is still not enough. Choose Auto (the default) to set quality yourself.
What happens to transparent areas?
JPG does not support transparency, so transparent pixels, such as the shadow around a macOS window capture, are filled with white.
Are my screenshots private?
Your screenshots are sent over an encrypted HTTPS connection to our conversion server, converted, and sent straight back to your browser. We do not publish, share or sell your images. See the privacy policy for details.
